Litigation Assistant
About the Role:
The Litigation Specialist provides comprehensive support throughout the litigation lifecycle, from early case development through settlement, trial, and appeal. This role requires strong procedural knowledge, meticulous file management, and the ability to support attorneys across drafting, discovery, calendaring, and court compliance.
Key Responsibilities
- Support attorneys through all phases of litigation, from pre-suit and pleadings through discovery, settlement, trial, and appeal
- Manage litigation calendars, including court deadlines, discovery cutoffs, hearings, and statute of limitations tracking
- Draft and prepare pleadings, motions, discovery responses, and litigation correspondence
- Provide e-filing support and file documents with state and federal courts in compliance with jurisdictional rules
- Coordinate discovery processes, including document production, interrogatories, requests for admission, and responses
- Review and organize discovery materials for relevance, completeness, and privilege
- Assist with document preparation, file organization, and overall litigation file management
- Prepare and maintain medical chronologies, summaries, and supporting documentation
- Order medical records and coordinate with records or document retrieval teams as needed
- Assist with trial preparation, including exhibit organization, witness coordination, and trial binders
- Communicate professionally with clients, opposing counsel, court personnel, and internal teams
- Support settlement preparation through demand drafting, document compilation, and correspondence
KPIs / Performance Metrics
- Calendar accuracy: 100% of court deadlines, hearings, and statutes of limitation correctly calendared
- Missed deadlines: 0 missed court, discovery, or filing deadlines
- E-filing accuracy: ≥ 99% acceptance rate on first submission
- Pleading & motion drafts: Submitted within assigned timelines (≥ 95% on time)
- Discovery responses: Completed and delivered within court-ordered deadlines (100%)
- Document organization: 0 critical documents missing or misfiled per audit
- Statute of limitations compliance: 100% verified and documented per case
- Medical chronologies & summaries: Delivered within required timeframe (≥ 95% on time)
- Attorney revision rate: ≤ 10% of drafts requiring substantive rework
- Client / internal communications: Responses within 1 business day (≥ 95%)
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree required; Paralegal certificate strongly preferred
- 3–5 years of litigation experience in a law firm environment
- Strong understanding of the litigation process from early case stages through settlement and trial
- Experience with calendaring, statute of limitations tracking, and court deadline management
- Proficiency with e-filing systems and court rules
- Strong legal drafting, organizational, and document management skills
- Ability to manage multiple deadlines in a fast-paced environment
Preferred Qualifications
- Paralegal certification from an ABA-approved program
- Experience in personal injury, mass tort, or complex litigation
- Trial preparation experience
- Knowledge of federal and state rules of civil procedure
- Experience with litigation support or document management systems
